Romans Chapters 4 & 5 Review

       Classes 201-206

 

Of the 4 sections of Romans, we have now finished the first one (chapters 1-5), about man’s lost condition and God’s way of justifying us.  Let’s review chapters 4&5 before launching into Section 2.

 

Chapter 4

  1. What is “the flesh”?  What did Abraham learn about it?
  2. What was Abraham promised?  How can he inherit the world (vs 13) when he died thousands of years ago?
  3. Do we need to be children of Abraham in order to inherit his promise of resurrection from the dead and eternal life?
  4. Is justification a reward for good works, or an undeserved gift (by grace)?  Vs 4,5
  5. Can a person be depending on their good works and still get justified?  Vs 5
  6. Was Abraham an uncircumcised Gentile when he was justified?  Why is that important to us?    Vs 9-11
  7. Abraham is the father of what two groups of believers?  Vs 11,12
  8. Do we need to be of the circumcision (spiritual Israel) to be a child of Abraham?
  9. Do we inherit eternal life by faith like Abraham, or through Israel and the law?
  10. Why can we be sure of receiving eternal life?  Vs 16
  11. What is faith?  Vs 19-21
  12. Does God say the same thing to us that He said to Abraham?  Vs 17,18  Is the result the same when we believe Him?  Vs 22-24
  13. What specifically must one believe today to be justified?  Vs 24,25
  14. What did Jesus’ resurrection from the dead prove about our justification? 

Chapter 5

  1. Is our peace with God permanent?  Why do you think so?
  2. What is our standing with God?  How can we use it (access it)?  Example? Vs 2
  3. What is our future that we can rejoice in?  vs 2
  4. Are tribulations brought on us by God to show us our mistakes?  If not, what causes them?
  5. Are patience, experience and hope (confidence) all gifts of grace?  Or are they learned by tribulation?  Vs 3,4
  6. How can we experience the peace of God in the midst of tribulation?  Phil 4:6,7
  7. How is the love of God shed aboard in our hearts?  Vs 5;  I Cor 2:12
  8. How did God commend (demonstrate) His love for mankind once and for all?
  9. After we believe and are justified, does God love (value and esteem) us even more?  Vs 9,10
  10. In verses 9&10,  what things are we yet going to be saved from?
  11. If a person is helpful, religious and moral, but doesn’t trust Christ, is he an enemy of God?  Vs 10  Why?
  12. What does reconcile mean?  What does atonement mean?  Vs 11  Has Israel experienced her atonement yet?  Have we? 
  13. Do we have more now because of what Christ did than we lost because of Adam? Vs 15-17
  14. Was it Adam’s sin, or our own, that made us sinners?  Is it Christ’s obedience, or our own, that makes us righteous?  Vs 18,19
  15. Why does grace reign now instead of sin?  Vs 20,21
