1. What is the over-all subject of these three chapters? Israel Notice the first verses of each chapter.
Chapter 9:
2. To whom did God give His law, covenants and promises? (Verse 4) Israel Has He fulfilled them yet? No. Why not? Israel’s program was interrupted by our Gentiles program.
3. Did God call people to be saved, OR to fulfill His purpose? To fulfill His purpose.
4. Is Rom 9:12,13 talking about boys or nations? Nations Scripture please. Malachi 1:1-5
5. Does God sometimes choose unsaved people to fulfill His purposes? Verse 17 YES, He used Pharaoh. Other examples are Caiaphas (John 11:48-51), and Nebuchadrezzar (Jer 25:9)
6. God has delayed establishing Israel’s kingdom on earth, in the same way that He delayed bringing Israel out of Egypt. Why? Verse 17,18 God delayed Israel’s kingdom so that His "name might be declared throughout the earth" and He can "have mercy" on those who believe Him.
7. Who is the "lump" in Rom 9:21? Israel Prove your answer from the Old Testament. Jer 18:1-6 Does God throw the lump out? NO Or does He re-shape it from a vessel of honor to one of dishonor, and then back to honor in the future? YES Verses 25-29
Romans 10:
8. What is the common mistake of religious people, including the Jews of Paul’s time? Verse 3 They think they can be good enough to be accepted by God.
9. Can a Jew be saved today? YES How? By trusting Christ’s death and resurrection to be payment for their sin.
10. What difference is there to God between a Jew and a Gentile today? NONE Was there a difference when Christ was on earth? YES Mat 15:25 How about in the future age? YES James 1:1, Zech 8:23
11. Does a person have to say anything out loud to be saved? NO What is the "mouth" in Rom 10:8-13? The mouth and the heart here are both of the soul, not the body.
12. Who is the foolish nation of Rom 10:19, and who found Christ in Rom 10:20? The people within Israel who followed Jesus and the 12 disciples.
Romans 11:
13. If we add any works to the gospel of grace, is it still grace? NO Can it still save? NO Rom 11:6
14. At what event did Israel stumble? Verse 11; Rom 9:32,33 Israel stumbled over Christ, and had Him crucified.
15. When and how did Israel fall? Israel fell when they stoned Stephen who was speaking by the Holy Spirit. (Acts 7:51-59) Rejecting the Holy Spirit was unforgivable (Mat 12:31,32) Has Israel been cast away forever? Verse 11-15 Israel has been cast away, but not forever.
16. What was the result of Israel’s fall for the Gentiles ? Salvation was sent to the Gentiles directly. (In prophecy, what was to happen next after Israel’s fall? God’s wrath. But what happened instead? God interrupted prophecy by saving Paul and sending a new message to the world through him.)
17. What does the olive tree symbolize? Spiritual life Who is the root? Abraham
18. What will bring on the end of our age? Gentile unbelief.
19. What is Israel’s future? (What is Israel "called" or "elected" to be?) Israel will be the kings and priests of the kingdom on earth.
20. What must happen before God deals with Israel again? The age of Gentile equal opportunity must end. Everybody with a future in heaven will be taken off the earth. I Thes 4:16,17
21. What is Israel’s new covenant? (OT scripture please.) Jer 31:31-34, Ez 36:24-28. God will fill their minds with His thinking (Spirit) so they will automatically keep His law. Are we under the new covenant today? NO
22. Are we Gentiles now spiritual Israel, with their covenants, promises and future? NO
23. Does God’s plan depend on people believing Him and doing His will? NO
